How Much Does Medical Imaging Cost in Chattanooga?

Medical imaging prices can be surprisingly difficult to determine before a test is performed. A CT scan, ultrasound or X-ray may involve a facility charge, imaging charge, contrast charge and a separate radiologist bill—and what you ultimately owe can depend on your insurance deductible and network.

At Hitchcock Direct Imaging in Hixson, we take a simpler approach.

We publish our self-pay imaging prices before your visit. Our prices are all-inclusive, with no separate facility or radiologist bill from Hitchcock Direct Imaging.

You do not need insurance, and you do not need to be a Hitchcock Family Medicine patient.

A healthcare provider’s order is required for imaging studies.

Why Can Medical Imaging Prices Vary So Much?

Two patients can have similar imaging examinations and receive dramatically different bills depending on where the study is performed.

Hospital-based imaging may involve several separate components, including the technical cost of performing the study, a hospital or facility fee, contrast material, and professional interpretation by a radiologist. Patients using insurance may also be responsible for deductibles, coinsurance or other out-of-pocket costs.

The price that matters is not simply the “price of a CT scanner.” It is the total amount you will be responsible for after every component of the examination is included.

That is why Hitchcock Direct Imaging publishes one clear self-pay price.

Before comparing imaging centers, ask:

• Is this the total price or only the facility charge?
• Is the radiologist’s interpretation included?
• Is IV contrast included when needed?
• Will I receive another bill later?

Clear, all-inclusive self-pay pricing
CT Scan — $350–$475
CT without contrast is $350. CT with contrast or with and without contrast is $475.
X-Ray — $40
Provider-ordered X-rays with radiologist interpretation included. Bilateral studies are +$20 when applicable.
Ultrasound — $160
General, OB/GYN, vascular and ABI ultrasound with radiologist interpretation included. Bilateral add-on is +$50 when applicable.
Cardiac Calcium Score — $100
A noncontrast coronary calcium CT to help refine cardiovascular risk assessment.
Low-Dose Lung Cancer Screening — $250
Low-dose CT lung cancer screening for eligible patients with a significant smoking history.
Ultra-Low-Dose Diagnostic Chest CT — $150
Very-low-dose diagnostic CT for selected chest and lung concerns when more detail than an X-ray is needed.

What Is Included in Your Imaging Price?

Your published price includes the imaging examination, facility services, interpretation by a board-certified radiologist and the final radiology report. Applicable contrast is included in the listed price for the ordered study. A digital copy of your images is available upon request.

Imaging Without a Membership or Insurance Requirement

You do not need to be a Hitchcock Family Medicine patient to use Hitchcock Direct Imaging. We accept imaging orders from outside healthcare providers, and a provider’s order is required for every imaging study.

We do not bill insurance. Patients pay the published self-pay price at the time of service. Same-day appointments are often available, depending on the examination and current schedule.

Imaging Cost and Scheduling FAQs
What types of imaging do you offer?
We provide CT scans, Ultra-low-dose diagnostic chest CT, X-rays, ultrasound, standard resting 12-lead EKGs, cardiac calcium scoring, low-dose lung cancer screening and vascular CT studies.
Do I need to be a Hitchcock Family Medicine patient to use the imaging center?
No. Imaging is open to everyone. Patients from any provider, employer group, and the public are welcome.
Do I need an order from a healthcare provider?
Yes. All imaging studies (x-ray, ultrasound, CT) require a healthcare provider’s order. Any licensed provider may order imaging with us; it does not have to be a Hitchcock Family Medicine doctor.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not bill insurance. Both insured and uninsured patients are welcome to use Hitchcock Direct Imaging and pay our published self-pay prices at the time of service. No Hitchcock Family Medicine membership is required.
Does the published price include the radiologist’s interpretation?
Yes. Our published prices include the imaging examination, facility services, interpretation by a board-certified radiologist and the final report. Applicable contrast is included in the listed price for the ordered study. You will not receive an additional facility fee or separate radiologist bill from Hitchcock Direct Imaging.
Can I use my HSA or FSA card to pay for my imaging studies?
Yes. Many patients use HSA/FSA funds for imaging services.
How soon can I get an appointment?
Same-day access is often available. CT and ultrasound may occasionally require a day or two depending on the study and current schedule. X-ray patients may walk in during imaging hours after their order has arrived.
How do I get my results?
All studies are read by board-certified radiologists. Results are sent directly to your ordering provider, who will review them with you.
How and when will I receive my results?
A board-certified radiologist interprets your study, and the final report is sent to your ordering healthcare provider. Your provider will review the findings with you and explain any next steps. Reports are typically sent within 2–3 business days.
Can I get a copy of my images and reports?
Yes, patients may request a digital copy of their study images and final report once it has been read by our radiologist.
